what do you know?

the sleepwalker blew in from a snowstorm.  doctor prinzhorn says that they can't find his identity.

you don't see the movement of the water.  you don't see the ebb and the flow.

the man on the birdbath is a patient.  he haunts me.

you sent me high and low tide.  i can see only the start and the end.

you sent me an ethereal body on your birdbath.   

i didn't know.  what memories  do i send you? i didn't know.

you sent it to me.  you send me things occasionally.  i thought you might know.  you might have a reason.

i was thinking of that snowstorm yesterday.  it was glorious.  how did you see it?

arthur, you remember an incident in 17 or 18 second blocks of time.  here is your memory of the last snow in the back of the asylum.  what happened to the birdbath?  the scene doesn't move much.  it quivers.  that is the way you think.  there are a little more than 300 separate images in there.  i remember things in stills.  they make a mark on my memory and get locked there, more often than not.  at times you can see how the scene begins and how it ends.  you say it is popov.  i believe you.  do you remember the quiet?  in this scene nothing happens in the still that i see. 

it was dusko popov.  adele, you forget.  we don't have to prove anything to anybody.

how could you prove it without a picture?  how could you prove with a picture?

what happened before the moment of the image?

what happened after the moment of the image?

i can see popov in the hallway.  he runs past the woman on the bench.  she doesn't move.

arthur, you will never know.  it was a still photograph.

that was dusko popov's shadow.  i am sure of it.

the shadow represents the man who is not there.  he will be there in one second.

but they need context for interpretation.  context can be invented.

they are a sponge for interpretation.  don't forget to bring all of your prejudices.

images float.  they find their way into our old baggage.

but they deny meaning.  they have no meaning.  it doesn't depend on the lighting.

be careful of cameras too.  their images burn straight to the unconscious.  there are flashes of truth...

i never trust double agents.  i never trust killers either.  although they can look glamorous.

i thought simon was a serious lady.  she is being played by dusko.  he lost his touch long ago.
